Brennan urges Trump's removal through the 25th Amendment

Brennan Calls for Trump’s Removal Amid Iran Threats

John Brennan, the former CIA Director under Obama, has urged for President Donald Trump’s removal from office, echoing sentiments from several Democrats who argue that Trump’s posts on Truth Social—specifically threats against Iran—are illegal.

In a recent MS NOW interview with Ali Velshi, Brennan discussed how the 25th Amendment was “written with Donald Trump in mind.” He expressed concern over Trump retaining command over the military, especially in light of his alarming statements regarding the potential destruction of entire civilizations. “We’re definitely in a really, really challenging situation,” he remarked.

Over 70 members of Congress are advocating for Trump to consider the 25th Amendment following a series of provocative statements about Iran concerning the Strait of Hormuz.

The president’s initial threat was made on Easter Sunday, setting a deadline of April 7 at 8 p.m. Shortly before this deadline, Trump ominously declared on Truth Social that, “The entire civilization will die tonight,” later adding, “I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.”

Just before the deadline, Trump announced that a two-week ceasefire agreement had been reached between the U.S. and Iran. However, after negotiations in Pakistan, he shared on Truth Social that the U.S. Navy would initiate a blockade of all ships in and out of the Strait of Hormuz starting Monday.

Since conflict with Iran began, Brennan has been vocal in his criticism of Trump’s approach. He has, on multiple occasions, characterized Trump’s handling of the situation as “disturbed” and “ignorant.”

Interestingly, the Department of Justice began investigating Brennan in July 2025 over allegations he mishandled a 2017 intelligence assessment concerning Russian interference in the 2016 election. Though the 2017 assessment included the Steele dossier—a disputed collection of memos claiming Trump colluded with Russia—Brennan had denied that the dossier served as any basis for intelligence community assessments. Nevertheless, House Republicans accused him of lying during his 2023 testimony.

Brennan’s legal team noted that while they were made aware of the investigation, they had not been provided any legal basis for it.

Brennan has consistently denied any wrongdoing and refuted accusations from Trump and his allies, arguing he did not enable a “contrived narrative” regarding Russian interference, which was central to the FBI’s collusion investigation. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan recently suggested that the Justice Department’s investigation was escalating and hinted that Brennan would soon face consequences.
