Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathan Cooper and his girlfriend were arrested on Friday due to domestic violence charges. Both individuals are facing two counts of domestic violence and one count of criminal mischief, according to records from Douglas County jail.
The situation reportedly escalated from a heated argument over suspicions of cheating. As reported by TMZ, the couple had been seeing each other on and off, and during their time together at Cooper’s mansion, the girlfriend confronted him over her doubts. An arrest affidavit indicates that she seized Cooper’s cellphone and threw it against a wall before regaining control of it.
The two then got into a physical altercation over the phone. Ultimately, Cooper managed to retrieve the device but allegedly threatened to destroy her iPhone, which he then bit, damaging the screen.
Cooper is scheduled for a hearing at 9:45 a.m. in Douglas County court, with another hearing planned for Monday. Following the initial hearing, he was released on personal recognizance bail, according to 9NEWS. Attempts by Fox News Digital to reach the Broncos and Cooper’s agency for comments have not yet received responses.
At 28 years old, Cooper has been with the Broncos since he was drafted in the seventh round from Ohio State. He has played all five seasons of his career in Denver. Last season, he participated in 17 games, accumulating 50 tackles and eight sacks, making him a vital part of the team’s defense. In November 2024, the Broncos extended his contract for four years, worth $60 million.
