Brooks Raley's unusual tough performance costs Mets in defeat to Mariners

Brooks Raleigh has made a solid impact on the Mets bullpen since his return from the IL in July, but he faced a challenging outing in Friday’s 11-9 defeat against the Mariners.

After performing well in 10 straight appearances without giving up a run since coming back from Tommy John surgery in 2024, Raleigh allowed three runs to score, following a mistake from Ryan Healthley that contributed to a five-run inning for the Mariners.

“The team is putting in the effort, and I truly believe that. Everyone wants to be in the game when it’s close,” said Laurie. “It’s not just about wanting it; we have to execute better. Everything seems to escalate with the current stretch we’ve been in.”

Healthley gave up the lead early in the inning, surrendering an RBI hit to Dominic Canzone and Donovan Solano before Raleigh came in, where he subsequently allowed Cole Young to hit a two-run double, widening the score to 10-6.

“I thought I was doing okay. I got a ground ball from the first hitter, but it slipped past the glove. I made what I thought was a good pitch, but then I ended up walking one,” Laurie noted.

Francisco Lindor appears to be bouncing back after a recent slump; he hit two home runs against Seattle’s starter, Louis Castillo, during Thursday night’s game, racking up four RBIs.

“It comes down to execution,” Lindor shared, noting he had eight hits in his past 10 games. “I mentioned before how my hitting coach, Carlos Mendoza, is working with me to help improve my game.”

His second home run marked the seventh leadoff homer of the season, tying the franchise record set by Curtis Granderson in 2015 and 2016.

The Mets also held a pre-game concert featuring a tribute band to celebrate the 60th anniversary of The Beatles’ 1965 performance at Shea Stadium. Throughout the game, photos of current players dressed in 60s-style Beatles attire were displayed on the scoreboards.
