Not long after a Mississippi teenager was charged with murdering an elderly couple, his two brothers reportedly attempted to shoot a sheriff’s deputy in a separate incident.
Cordarius Hobbs, 17, allegedly broke into the home of 74-year-old Billy Blair and 71-year-old Virginia Carol Blair in Mendenhall, Mississippi, on June 3, leading to their killings.
A few days later, on June 8, his brothers, Cortavius and Cortavion Hobbs, reportedly tried to attack a deputy in Covington County, Mississippi.
Covington County Chief Deputy Sheriff Ricky Lott shared with FOX News Digital that the brothers ran from deputies after a traffic stop. It’s said that Cortavius and Cortavion fired shots during the encounter.
Bailey Martin, a specialist from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, noted that all three men are siblings.
Lott recounted that initially, when Deputy Yates Rodney pulled over the brothers for a seat belt violation, they seemed “sincere, friendly, and cheerful,” mentioning they had just come back from a fishing trip.
The deputy observed that marijuana was present in their vehicle and noticed a blunt instrument inside as well.
Tension escalated when the deputy began questioning them about the drugs.
A high-speed chase ensued, lasting around two to three miles, and ended when the vehicle got stuck. It’s reported that Rodney suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder during this chase.
Doctors have informed him that he may “never walk again” due to damage to his lungs and spine from the bullet.
Having been with the department for just six months and recently married, Rodney now faces a challenging recovery journey, as highlighted by a GoFundMe set up for him.
Lott mentioned that both Cortavius and Cortavion have juvenile criminal histories, though specifics weren’t available.
The brothers face charges of attempted capital murder and hindering prosecution, with Cortavion also charged with felony escape.
This shooting incident occurred shortly after Cordarius was accused of the homicides of Billy and Virginia Blair.
On June 3, deputies responded to the couple’s home around 12:24 p.m. after family members couldn’t get in touch with them.
Upon arrival, deputies were met with gunfire, as officials reported.
Cordarius faces multiple charges, including two counts of capital murder, one count of robbery, as well as four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and on law enforcement officers, along with two counts of aggravated assault on individuals aged 65 and older.
