Bruce Springsteen Reflects on American Tragedy in Upcoming Tour
In a recent conversation with the New York Times, Bruce Springsteen discussed his “Land of Hope & Dreams Tour” and didn’t hold back when critiquing President Donald Trump, labeling him “stupid” and dubbing the current times an “American tragedy.”
Springsteen is gearing up to unveil a nearly forgotten song from his past, titled “Track II: Lost Album.” He expressed his desire for the tour’s set list to resonate with themes of what he termed “American tragedy,” aiming to reflect on today’s circumstances.
“It’s an American tragedy,” he stated in the interview. “I think it was a combination of industrial growth and a significant rise in wealth inequality that left many behind, creating a fertile ground for demagoguery.”
Reflecting on the early days of Trump’s second term, Springsteen mentioned, “What we’ve lived through the last 70 days has challenged the notion that such things don’t happen here. But here we are.” Yet, he ended on a hopeful note regarding the country’s future.
“We have a long democratic history,” Springsteen remarked. “As a nation, we haven’t experienced authoritarian rule. I believe we’ll regain our footing and turn things around.” He added, “Let’s knock on wood.”
In related news, Springsteen recently canceled a concert in Greensboro, North Carolina, in protest of the state’s controversial “bathroom bill” (HB2).
“My fans know I’m set to perform in Greensboro this Sunday. However, given North Carolina’s passage of HB2, often referred to as the ‘bathroom law,’ I have to prioritize my principles over performance.”
