Bruce Springsteen’s Parenting Approach
Bruce Springsteen, a legendary figure in rock music, recently shared insights about his role as a father to his three children—Evan, 34, Samuel, 33, and Jessica, 31. Although he’s often seen as a “boss” by fans, at home he embraces being just a dad.
In a recent interview, he remarked about his family’s simple lifestyle, saying, “With just a few guitars and a piano, you wouldn’t guess that musicians live here.” He explained that his children grew up in a relatively modest home compared to their peers. “We tried to create a really natural environment for them,” he added.
Springsteen, humorously referring to himself as a “featured whore,” acknowledged that his children’s interests do not revolve around his celebrity status. “They pretty much ignore it,” he admitted. “They might come to a show and bring friends, but it’s not a big part of their lives.”
His children have carved out their own paths: Evan works as a music programmer, Jessica is an accomplished equestrian, and Sam serves as a firefighter in New York City.
Recalling his family life, Springsteen said, “I wasn’t active in the LA scene, whatever that was. We lived a pretty low-key life.” He confessed that the only nightlife he experienced was while performing at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park.
With a career spanning six decades and 21 studio albums, Springsteen has always remained focused on the essentials. “I’m grateful for the paths that have been laid by the Beatles and Bob Dylan,” he said, reflecting on the influence of these legends. His goal has always been to create amazing music and connect with audiences, rather than chase fame or money.
In 2017, Springsteen opened up about the challenges of fame as a father, noting he was 40 when his eldest was born. “They had their own musical heroes. When I’d mention my songs, they’d often look confused,” he admitted.
As for his career, a new biopic titled *Deliver Me From Nowhere* will be released soon, depicting his upbringing in Freehold, New Jersey, and the creation of his 1982 album *Nebraska*. Jeremy Allen White portrays him in the film.
Springsteen mentioned that during the filming, he wanted to allow actors creative freedom, often staying away during more personal scenes. “If director Scott Cooper needed me, I’d make an effort to be around, but I was busy touring,” he explained.
Although optimistic about the film, Springsteen clarified he won’t be performing songs from *Nebraska* to promote it. “I don’t think I’ll do that,” he confessed.
