Caitlin Clark is one step closer to a suspension after receiving a questionable technical foul for punching an opponent in the face during a game.
Late in the third quarter Sunday, the Fever rookie was pushing the ball up the court when Clark dribbled from behind and Lynx wing Cecilia Zandarasini grabbed Clark’s right arm in an apparent attempt to slow her down.
Frustrated, Clark stretched out his arm and retaliated with a light swat, eventually making hard contact with Zandarashini’s face.
The former University of Iowa star appeared upset about the foul as he walked away from Zandarashini.
After Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve spoke briefly with the officials about the incident, the officials decided to review the play and called a personal foul on Zandarashini and a technical foul on Clark.
It was Clark’s fourth technical foul of the season and his third since his seventh technical foul, which carries a one-game suspension per league rules.
The Fever (11-16) are coming off a commanding 81-74 win over the Lynx (16-8) at Target Center.
Clark, who gave a pair of sneakers to an excited young fan after the game, finished with 17 points, six assists and a round three score. The Fever had four players score in double figures, including Kelsey Mitchell’s game-high 21 points.
The win was Indiana’s third in their last four games.
