California alerted following investigation reveals 'clear breach' of Title IX

California’s Title IX Violations Confirmed by U.S. Department of Education

WASHINGTON – A civil rights investigation by the Trump administration concluded that California discriminated against women and girls by allowing biological men to compete in women’s sports and access intimate facilities.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Civil Rights Office found that California’s Education Department and the Governance Federation violated Title IX. They were deemed responsible for undermining equality by permitting men in girls’ sports and private spaces.

This ruling leaves California with ten days to comply, or they could face immediate enforcement measures, including referrals to the Department of Justice.

Earlier, Governor Gavin Newsom was criticized for allowing men to participate in women’s sports, which some argue diminishes the achievements of female athletes. This situation has continued despite objections, reflecting a lack of action from both the California Department of Education and the Scholastic Federation.

The Trump administration has been firm in enforcing Title IX, emphasizing that California has not met its obligations under federal law.

Title IX, enacted in 1972, aims to ensure equal opportunities in education and athletics, regardless of gender, for institutions receiving federal funds.

A recent New York Times poll indicated that a significant majority of Americans and even many Democrats support fair sports participation rules.

In contrast, some Western nations, like the UK, have started restricting hormone treatments for minors due to concerns about the physical and psychological implications, urging more research into potential risks.

Research shows that even after undergoing hormone therapy, transgender female athletes may have a competitive edge over biological female athletes.

The Trump administration’s actions follow a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that upheld Tennessee’s ban on hormone therapy for minors. This has intensified scrutiny on California’s policies in the eyes of federal authorities.

Secretary McMahon criticized the state’s response, alleging a detachment from reality and indicating that California’s resistance wouldn’t hold up in the face of federal demands.

To align with federal standards, California’s educational institutions are being urged to adopt a strict biological definition of “male” and “female.” The California Governance Federation is also required to restore all records and accolades for female athletes in women’s competitions, particularly bringing attention to cases like Katy McGuinness who competed in the long jump against transgender athletes recently.

The Education Department began scrutinizing the California Governance Sports Federation back in February after claims arose about non-compliance with the president’s executive orders regarding transgender athletes.

The department is known for promoting Title IX throughout June, a month dedicated to advocating for equal educational and athletic opportunities.

A representative from the California Scholastic Federation has not yet commented on the recent developments.
