On May 31, chaos erupted at a Chipotle in California after three customers started throwing food at employees.
Video of the incident taken by a passerby shows three women assaulting the store employee.
A woman climbed onto a table, jumped onto the cash register and began throwing items at staff.
Two other women also climbed onto the employee side of the service counter and began throwing food at shocked staff.
Confused customers can be seen scattered around the store, staring at the mayhem.
Details of what caused the incident are unclear, and it is unclear whether police have intervened in the incident.
The Vallejo Police Department confirmed to KTVU-TV that they are aware of the video going viral and are investigating.
The identities and ages of the three women seen in the video are also unknown.
The incident comes about a month after Chipotle increased prices for customers and employee wages nationwide.
“We did a modest increase of 6 to 7 percent. We’ve been monitoring traffic since the increase and have yet to see a change. We haven’t seen a change in behavior,” Chief Financial Officer Jack Hartung said in May.
“It’s still very early days so we’ll be watching closely.”
Hartung added that Chipotle’s loyal customers still visit the restaurant chain and the company is banking on consumers’ receptiveness to sustain its quick-service model.
“we A great first quarter“This is a 7% increase over the same period last year, with over 5% of that coming from increased transactions, which we understand is difficult to achieve in this environment,” the CFO noted.
“What we’re most proud of is that when we look at our customers by income bracket, we have lower-income consumers coming into our stores at the same rate as higher-income consumers.”
Echoing a similar message from celebrity chef Robert Irvine, Hartung explained that Chipotle is turning to technology, investing in robots that can reallocate menial tasks without cutting human workers during a costly time for the business.
Chipotle’s line chef robots will focus exclusively on online orders, minimizing ingredient errors and ensuring on-time delivery, the CFO said.
