California Democrats are advancing a bill aimed at banning law-abiding citizens from buying Glock handguns, believing it will help curb criminal use of “Glock Switches.”
“Glock Switches” are illegal plastic devices that can be attached to the back of a Glock slide, converting the weapon to fully automatic.
It’s common for progressives to focus on Glocks regarding the misuse of these switches. For instance, on March 19, 2024, it was reported that Chicago sued Glock over issues related to the switch, despite many being imported from China.
On February 26, 2024, a report highlighted by Peter Schweizer revealed that the U.S. is inundated with these small metal devices, which can change handguns into machine guns. While they are illegal for most gun owners, they are shipped from China in large quantities.
California’s AB 1127 draws a parallel to the Chicago lawsuit by categorizing Glock as a “machine gun convertible pistol.”
The text in AB 1127 states:
“Machine gun conversion pistol” refers to a semi-automatic pistol that can be easily converted into a machine gun by attaching a pistol converter, as detailed, which interferes with the trigger mechanism, allowing it to fire multiple rounds with a single trigger pull.
Additionally, AB 1127 expands the definition of “Machine Gun” to ban the manufacture, sale, possession, or transportation of these conversion pistols.
In essence, while “Glock Switches” are already illegal, they remain in circulation among criminals. So now, California Democrats are proposing restrictions that could make it harder for law-abiding citizens to purchase Glock handguns.
