A former California teacher has pleaded no contest after being arrested last year for having sex with a 14-year-old boy in a locked classroom on graduation day, prosecutors announced.
The Butte County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday that Michelle Christine Solis, 46, entered a plea to sexual charges related to a 2021 incident involving one of her students.
The district attorney’s office said the teacher appeared in court for a preliminary hearing but “changed his plea and pleaded guilty.”
Solis, who taught the boy at Sycamore Middle School, befriended him on Instagram in the weeks leading up to his graduation.
Prosecutors say she sent him four explicit photos of herself before having sex in a locked classroom on the day of her eighth-grade graduation.
In October 2023, rumors of an illicit encounter and photo began to spread in Gridley, a small city 80 miles from Sacramento, and a police investigation began.
Investigators contacted the boy and searched his cell phone, where they found messages between the boy and Solis and two explicit photos of Solis, prosecutors said.
She was arrested in November but posted $15,000 bail to stay out of jail as her case progresses through the legal system.
Solis will be required to register as a sex offender and could face up to four years in state prison.
Her sentencing is scheduled for June 6th.
