California Highway Patrol gets in some monkey business during routine stop

A routine traffic stop took an unusual turn Monday when California Highway Patrol officers stopped a Rolls-Royce in Madera County.

Authorities stopped a 2022 Rolls-Royce Ghost on Highway 99 for speeding and were surprised to find a spider monkey inside.

The CHP noted that the discovery of an exotic animal inside an exotic car made for a particularly bizarre “traffic stop.”

The monkey is believed to be one month old, and it is illegal to keep primates as pets in California.

The driver, identified as Ali Moused Adel Mohamed, 27, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana for sale, and was found to be under the influence of alcohol, police said.
