California man charged with animal cruelty for allegedly beating poisoned, pregnant sea lion with large stick

California Officials say A man has been arrested for using a large stick to slap a poisoned pregnant sea lion in Ventura County.

The incident unfolded on the Ventura Beach Promenade, according to the Channel Islands Marine Wildlife Institute. The dispatcher saw the man on the beach through several surveillance cameras.

“The sea lions continued to show toxic symptoms, including lethargy, seizures and involuntary muscle convulsions.”
