Suspect Caught on Camera Allegedly Setting Raccoon on Fire
A man in California has come under scrutiny after being captured on camera in a distressing incident involving a raccoon. According to Rebeccaenson, who leads Animal Care and Control in San Francisco, two videos showcasing the alleged events were submitted to their department. One of the videos appears to show a raccoon already injured by fire, which was sent in by a local resident. The footage, recorded by home security cameras, shows the individual pursuing the animal.
In the video, the man reportedly brandishes what looks like a blowtorch while chasing the raccoon as it tries to flee.
Based on the visuals, Rebeccaenson suggested that this person might have a history of harming animals, particularly wildlife. “It seems this individual has previously inflicted injury on animals,” she commented, noting that the raccoon appeared to have sustained burns while still being chased. This behavior reflects a concerning attitude towards animal cruelty.
The troubling incident took place in the Mission Terrace neighborhood. Fortunately, the raccoon managed to escape, but animal control officers were unable to locate it afterward. Authorities are now actively searching for the individual responsible for the alleged abuse.
Residents who witnessed the event shared the footage on local Reddit channels, expressing outrage and labeling the suspect as a “sadist.” Some also mentioned how the raccoon was “defenseless” against the man’s actions.
Rebeccaenson explained that raccoons are typically not aggressive but tend to rummage through trash bins and commercial dumpsters for food. “The person in that video was definitely the offensive party,” she remarked.
