The Sutter County Sheriff's Office and the Sutter County District Attorney's Office will evaluate the situation on a case-by-case basis and work together to do what is best for justice and our community.
We are not interested in criminalizing constitutionally protected conduct. We take an oath to uphold the Constitution and will work to protect the rights of the people. This issue is far from resolved, and we hope the courts will rule in favor of our Constitution. We will continue to keep the community informed on this important issue.
Breitbart News reported that the law expanding gun-free zones for concealed carry permit holders went into effect on January 1, 2024, after a preliminary injunction against the law was put on hold.
However, lawsuits against the law continue, and Burns and Dupre noted in a statement that the lawsuits continue.
Last Saturday, Dec. 30, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals blocked the Dec. 20 injunction, essentially enforcing sensitive areas of the bill. The matter will likely be further challenged and will need to go through court proceedings. Additional hearings on the matter appear to be scheduled in the coming weeks.
Mr Burns and Mr Dupre said they were both encouraging the public to “obey the law”.
