California Woman Killed After Suicidal Man Jumped off Highway Overpass

A California woman was killed when a suicidal man jumped off a Los Angeles-area freeway overpass and landed on top of the car she and her husband were riding in.

Florencio and Margarita Novela Galindo were driving on the 210 Freeway in Sylmar over the weekend of Aug. 9 when Threatening ABC7 reported that a man was attempting to jump from the Loxford Overpass when he jumped off the bridge and went through the windshield of his car.

Florencio, who was driving, was not seriously injured in the collision with the man, but Margarita, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was seriously injured. The man who jumped out of the car died.

“I knew it was serious when my dad told me an ambulance was on the way and he pulled the car over to the side of the road and the door wouldn't open,” said the couple's son, David Galindo.

After fighting for her life in intensive care for weeks, Margarita died from her injuries on Wednesday.

“What if you stop to get gas? What if you stop to get some water? This is probably [wouldn’t] “I can't believe this is happening,” his grieving son told ABC7.

Margarita's daughter, Stephanie Galindo, also wondered what would have happened if that had happened.

“If she'd been two seconds, two inches slower, my mom might have been OK,” she said.

Florencio is heartbroken over the loss of his wife, but he also sympathizes with the man who accidentally killed his wife while committing suicide.

“He doesn't know what led him to commit suicide, but he holds no grudges,” David said in Spanish about his father.
