Outrage After Police Shooting of Dog in Los Angeles
A significant fundraising initiative for the family of a dog shot by a Los Angeles police officer during a celebration for the New York Knicks’ NBA championship victory has already surpassed $100,000, highlighting the rising public anger surrounding the incident.
The GoFundMe campaign, honoring Jameson—a two-year-old golden retriever and St. Bernard/poodle mix—had raised over $115,000 by Tuesday morning, far exceeding its original target of $10,000.
“On June 13, 2026, just ten minutes after we celebrated the Knicks’ championship, our dog was shot and killed right outside our home,” the heartbroken family shared.
“Jameson was only two and was taken from us far too soon. Anyone who met him would say he was the sweetest boy ever. Please help us get justice for Jameson and cover his cremation costs.”
The campaign does not clarify what “justice” for animals entails.
This fundraiser follows a tragic incident that marred a family celebration when police responded to a report of a woman screaming outside a Canoga Park apartment complex, which led to the shooting of the dog.
Before the incident, Jameson had been enjoying time with his family, donning a New York Knicks shirt.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers from the Topanga Patrol Division arrived at the scene around 8 p.m. in response to a call about a woman screaming inside an apartment.
The police reported that Jameson lunged at one of the officers, prompting the shooting.
According to police, the large dog was with its owner when they arrived at the scene. The owner initially closed the door but then opened it again, allowing Jameson to exit the apartment.
Since the shooting, a memorial has started to form in the hallway where neighbors witnessed Jameson’s death.
Emotional cellphone footage captured the aftermath, with Jameson’s owner, Marie Marseille, expressing her disbelief: “Oh my god! I can’t believe this is happening. I can’t believe this is happening.”
Authorities have stated that the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
