Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shot the US Thursday night after his country's hockey team defeated the Americans in the highly anticipated 4 Nations Championship Game.
“You cannot take our country – and you cannot take our game,” the resigning prime minister declared in a succinct statement. Posted on x After Team Canada, he worked overtime to beat his North American neighbor 3-2.
Trudeau's message was a less intense response to President Trump's repeated threat of turning Canada into the 51st state.
Despite Trudeau's public claim to keep Canada a sovereign state, he appears to be behind closed doors and lacks confidence.
While speaking to business and labor leaders earlier this month, the prime minister got caught up in a hot microphone, admitting that Trump's call to Annex Canada was “real.”
“The Trump administration not only knows the number of important minerals we have, but that's even the reason why they continue to talk about absorbing us and making us 51st. I suggest something that may be,” Trudeau told people in attendance, according to the Daily Beast.
“They are very aware of our resources, what we have and they are very hoping that they can benefit from them. But Trump has said that I keep in mind that it is one of the easiest ways to absorb the country, and that's true,” he said.
Trump, who calls Canadian leaders “Governor Trudeau,” was called Team USA on Thursday morning and fired them before the championship game.
“You guys are really talented. I have a lot of respect for hockey players, I'm a hockey fan. I love hockey. According to a clip from Cole, the president told the team. He posted to the Society of Truth.
“Just go outside and have a good time tonight. I just want to wish you plenty of good fortune.”
Team USA GM Bill Guerin told Athletic that Trump briefly mentioned turning Canada into the 51st state during his call with the US team.
