Canadian Woman in ICE Custody Following Assault Allegation
A 33-year-old woman from Canada, Caitlin Tracy, is currently in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after being accused of assaulting a teenager during the Fourth of July weekend.
Local news reports indicate that on July 3, the teen and three friends were walking along the boardwalk when Tracy approached them while filming with her phone. Court documents note that she directed her anger at two of the group who were wearing “patriotically colored” sweatpants, ultimately slapping the victim in the face and body.
After the incident, Tracy attempted to flee the scene but was later identified and arrested on the following Monday, with surveillance footage serving as evidence of the assault.
Records reveal that Tracy entered the United States on a passport in 2024 but is a Canadian citizen. Her husband, Matthew Geroni, expressed his concerns after she was taken into custody, stating, “Yesterday, July 13, my wife was taken into ICE custody and moved to Delaney Hall in Newark.” He, an American citizen himself, is advocating for her release—even if it means she would be deported back to Canada.
In a social media video, Geroni appeared distressed, saying he was unsure what to do to help her. “I need assistance. My wife is in ICE custody…I can’t reach her,” he lamented, noting his fear that ICE would pursue her further.
According to his social media updates, Geroni attempted to set up a GoFundMe campaign aimed at raising $9,000 for “legal defense and immigration costs.” However, the page has since been removed.
In summary, Tracy has been charged with assault, harassment, and endangering a minor, due to the age of the alleged victim. Her next court appearance is scheduled for August 4.
