Canadiens' coach Martin St. Louis reveals that a classic sitcom helps him relax after games

Montreal Canadiens Coach Finds Sleep Solution in “Seinfeld”

The Stanley Cup Playoffs bring a level of intensity that’s hard to match, and getting enough sleep can be a real challenge during this time. Luckily for Martin St. Louis, the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, he has a unique remedy to combat sleepless nights.

What’s his go-to? A rerun of the classic sitcom “Seinfeld.”

Currently, the Canadiens are in a tight matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning, holding a 2-1 lead in the series. The games have been closely contested, often extending beyond regulation, making the already high-pressure atmosphere even more exhausting.

After the Canadiens secured a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory in Game 3, a reporter asked St. Louis if he had any tricks for catching some sleep following such an adrenaline-filled event. With a laugh, the Hockey Hall of Famer revealed, “I can’t tell you all my tricks. I’m watching Seinfeld.”

I’ve always admired St. Louis, dating back to his days in Tampa. And while I wouldn’t exactly be heartbroken to discover he was a fan of “Friends” instead, it leaves me pondering how to finish that thought.

St. Louis elaborated on his love for “Seinfeld,” saying, “I mean, I’ve seen it, but what do we have? There are nine seasons, right? I’ve probably watched it four times in a row. For me, ‘Seinfeld’ is a show that disconnects me from everything. It’s a show about nothing, which allows me not to think too hard. I know the characters well enough to just listen… so it’s easy to drift off to sleep.”

In a world filled with high stakes and pressure, sometimes all you need is a comforting presence from a familiar TV show to find some peace at the end of the day.
