Canucks’ Dakota Joshua reveals testicular cancer diagnosis: ‘I encourage men to get checked regularly’

Vancouver Canucks Forward Dakota Joshua will be out indefinitely after revealing on Tuesday that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer this summer and is currently recovering after successful surgery to remove a tumor.

The 28-year-old Joshua released a statement via his team's social media.

“This summer I felt a lump in one of my testicles. The doctor later diagnosed it as Testicular cancer. “Hearing this news was of course terrifying, but thankfully the doctors were able to successfully remove the tumour,” his statement read.

“These past few weeks have been extremely tough, but I have been fortunate to have the support of my family, friends, teammates and doctors. Unfortunately, as I continue to recover from surgery, I will not be ready for the start of training camp. I intend to return to play as soon as possible this season and am working hard every day to be able to reunite with my teammates.”

“It was very difficult to face the reality of this particular type of cancer, but the best thing I could do was seek medical attention straight away. I would encourage men to get regular screening for testicular cancer,” he added.

Joshua is in his second season with the Canucks and recorded a career-high 18 goals and 14 assists in 63 games. He also had four goals and four assists in the Canucks' playoff run, which ended in the second round. Edmonton Oilers.

Joshua was coming off an impressive season and signed a four-year, $13 million contract extension in June.
