Auto mechanics can add “helping animals” to their resume.
Bruce Garden was first alerted to an injured seagull next to his workplace 18 months ago.
The auto mechanic told SWNS that the parking lot next to his shop in Dumbarton, Scotland, was the site of an injured seagull with bleeding wings.
Garden, who called animal services and was told to “let nature take its course,” was surprised when someone passing by brought the bird into her workplace.

“Blood was coming out of her injured wing, so I just helped her to her feet and she left safely,” he told SWNS.
Garden said another person brought the seagull back to the store, and Garden pointed out that it is resistant to wild animals.

“I nursed it back to health and named it ‘Hopeful’ in hopes that it would fly again,” he added.
Ms Garden said she gave the gulls vitamin D and calcium to heal and strengthen their bones, and then began feeding them.

“Everyone has the impression that seagulls eat everything, but I can tell you that’s not the case with this seagull,” he joked.

Garden said when mechanics tried to figure out what foods the seagulls ate, they found they were eating things like mussels, mint and cheese.
The 54-year-old detailed Hopeful’s presence in the garage, noting that it has become a very popular product with customers.

“She definitely has a personality,” he told SWNS.
He added: “When I’m sitting in my workshop in the garage, she comes over and sits on the jack nearby and pokes at my leg.”

Garden said most customers find Hopeful interesting and he hasn’t received any negative feedback.
Hopeful has also been known to pick up items off the store floor that he feels shouldn’t be there and throw them across the room.
