Career criminal beaten by Bronx residents after attempted rape: report

In the midday attack that rattled through the Bronx neighborhood, the 50-year-old career criminal allegedly tried to rape a 190-year-old woman in the daytime.

According to a press release from the New York City Police Department, the incident unfolded around 1pm on Friday, April 18th near Creston Avenue and East 184th Street.

Police say the suspect, later identified as Oswald Ramos, approached an elderly woman from behind and attempted to sexually assault Sheen before fleeing on foot.

However, the community was not trying to unanswered the attack.

The NYPD released surveillance video showing Ramos after alleged assault and scrambled to pull back his pants.

The footage, part of the department’s public appeal for help in identifying suspects, was quickly circulated online and among local residents. According to a report from the New York Post, it was the video that helped neighbouring vigilantes identify Ramos the next day.

On Saturday, vigilantes cornered Ramos near Tybout Avenue and East 187th Avenue. This is blocking from where the rape attempt occurred.

“Yeah, we beat him,” one local resident asked the Post to remain anonymous. “You don’t do that, that’s something you don’t. And when he comes back, I’ll shake him up again.”

Another neighbor supported him and said, “We don’t tolerate anything like this around here.” Others in the area reportedly comforted the elderly victim shortly after the attack.

In one case in 2018, he reportedly plunged into a Bronx deli, claiming he had just shot an officer and demanded money. Authorities later confirmed that the officers were not harmed.

Despite his long rap sheet, Ramos was free to walk the streets. The residents decided that it was enough.
