Carnie Wilson encounters serious issues following her lap-band removal surgery

Carney Wilson recently faced some serious health concerns following the removal of her lap band. The singer, known for her hit “Hold On,” underwent the procedure last week but ended up back in the hospital due to complications.

At 57, she reached out to her doctor after experiencing swelling and high blood pressure. In an update to her Instagram followers, she revealed that the medical team discovered an ulcer while removing the silicone band from her stomach.

Expressing relief, Wilson announced her decision to part ways with the band in a cheerful post, stating, “Goodbye rap band!!!!! We’re putting it out!!!!” She initially had the surgery in 2012, which is designed to assist weight loss by limiting food intake through a silicone device placed around part of the stomach.

Previously, she lost over 100 pounds through gastric bypass and lap band surgery. On Wednesday, she shared a surprising update on social media, saying, “My daughter now has a prescription for me, but I’m out of the hospital. I had a rap band operation, and it was a huge success. Thank you, Dr. Billy.” However, she continued to struggle with leg swelling and visited the hospital again due to her blood pressure rising, which she described as “very scary.”

Despite this setback, she felt a sense of optimism as the doctor adjusted her medication, stating that the swelling had subsided. The surgery was intense; they found food-related issues linked to the band. “All the stress this year is no surprise,” she reflected.

Wilson expressed her gratitude toward her medical team for their support throughout her journey. “I’m lucky to have overcome this, and it really puts a new perspective on my health,” she said. “I’m recovering, which is great. I appreciate everyone who has kept me in their thoughts.”

In earlier discussions, she emphasized her commitment to maintaining a balanced lifestyle, expressing reservations about weight loss medications like Ozempic. “It scares me. I don’t use it,” she noted, attributing her health to daily choices. “What I eat really makes a difference. Eating healthy foods, like apples, enhances my well-being, while sugar often doesn’t help,” she said.
