A cat killer is apparently operating in Los Angeles, where stray cats have been found dead due to BB gun injuries. Animal rights activists are mobilizing to address this troubling issue.
PETA has announced a $5,000 reward, hoping it will lead to information that could help identify and capture the perpetrator, according to CBS.
“This incident underscores a growing problem of animal cruelty and the ongoing lack of action by local authorities,” PETA remarked in a statement.
While investigations into these cases have not been evidently active, it’s uncertain if law enforcement is prioritizing the situation.
PETA is not just offering a reward; they’re also raising awareness about a series of concerning attacks happening near W. 94th Street and Vermont Avenue.
In early March, volunteers from Friends of Normie reported to CBS LA that numerous cats were shot dead, with attacks occurring nearly every week. Sadly, many of these cats were abandoned and thus particularly vulnerable.
A specific case that stands out is Albert, a cat shot in the spine. Due to the position of the bullet, surgery isn’t viable without significant risk of paralysis. Consequently, Albert may require pain management for his entire life and will always have a limp. PETA has teamed up with Friends of Normie to assist with his care.
As part of their “This is Kitty, Kitty” campaign, PETA is urging cat owners to keep their animals indoors to avoid these types of dangers. The campaign features characters exhibiting harmful behaviors with dangerous items, like gasoline and firearms.
“It’s high time for local animal control to step up and investigate these shootings to prevent further harm to cats,” stated PETA’s Senior Vice President, Lisa Lang. “We encourage everyone to report any signs of abuse or neglect and to always keep animals away from harm.”
