Family Reunites with Cat After Seven Years
A family has joyously reunited with their cat after losing him during a move across state lines seven years ago.
The Davidson family brought Dodger into their lives through Miss Winkle’s Pet Adoption Center in Clovis back in 2016. Amber Davidson shared how quickly Dodger became a cherished member of their family.
Tragedy struck when the children’s father passed away in 2018. Faced with moving to Florida, they had arranged for a friend to help transport their things. In the chaos, they hoped to have Dodger by their side.
However, before the family could begin their journey, Dodger disappeared. The years that followed were filled with uncertainty until—out of the blue—an email late one night offered a glimmer of hope.
“It was around 11 o’clock at night… Dodger was scanned by Fresno TNR,” Amber explained.
Sidney Sherman, affiliated with a nonprofit organization, revealed that Dodger had been captured in Madera and brought in for sterilization. As they examined him, staff noted something unusual: he was already neutered and had a microchip.
Upon scanning it, they discovered the chip led to an address far beyond California.
“I thought, oh my god… this isn’t the 559 area code,” she recalled.
By this time, the Davidson family had relocated 4,500 miles away to Georgia. As Sherman and Amber communicated about Dodger’s status, fate seemed to intervene. Sherman had planned a trip to Florida for March 24.
“If I meet him in Florida, I’d love to bring him to you,” she proposed.
The Davidson family made a seven-hour drive to meet her at 5 a.m., leading to a miraculous reunion with Dodger after all those years.
As Sidney remarked, “It was a ‘I’m finally home’ moment for him to be reunited with his family. It’s truly special.”
The Davidson family felt immense support from one another throughout this process. Amber noted how one of her children said, “Mom, you did great, you didn’t cry,” as they left the meeting.
In the end, it was that pivotal microchip that changed everything, enabling this heartfelt reunion. Dodger was home again, where he belonged.
