Catholic Private Schools Three students were expelled A 13-year-old from the same family was arrested by police after attempting to give a Trump-themed speech about patriotism.
Officials at St. Bonaventure Catholic School in Huntington Beach, California, said Jimmy Hayward refused to comply with the school’s demands when he submitted a video of himself speaking for a school election in which he said he was running for “Patriotism and School Spirit Committee.”
“I will make Spirit great again. I will make SBS great again.”
Hayward used imagery and language that referenced elements of former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
“My love for America is what motivates me to run for patriotism and school spirit committee member,” Hayward said in the video. “I’m going to make spirit great again. I’m going to make SBS great again.”
He had planned to present the speech to fellow students in May, but was asked by his school’s principal to remove the section about patriotism.
Hayward refused.
“I’m not taking away the patriotic parts of the speech, that’s the most important part. I’m not going to take them away,” he explained in an interview with KTTV-TV.
He says he was not allowed to deliver his speech, and instead was forced to sit while other students read theirs.
“It was humiliating,” he said.
The school then notified his family that it was expelling him and his two sisters.
Hattie Ruggles told KTTV there is a bright side to her children having to find new schools in the fall.
“Seeing as they abandoned us and threw our daughters in with them, I don’t think it’s a good environment to send your children to,” she said.
“From day one, we’ve told the truth. The truth about Jimmy. That’s it. We’re not slandering anything.”
In its letter, the school said the family had acted against its Christian code of conduct by conducting a “smear campaign against the school and its authorities”, including a petition calling for the principal’s dismissal.
Ruggles denies the accusations made by the private school.
“From day one, we’ve just been telling the truth, the truth about Jimmy,” she explained. “And that’s it. We’re not slandering anything.”
family Said The school also informed us that the principal will not be returning next term.
The school released a statement about the controversy on Thursday.
As a campus policy, we do not comment on the personal matters of students or families. However, St. Bonaventure Catholic School is committed to upholding the principles outlined in our Christian Code of Conduct and Parent Handbook. As such, we ask all parents and students to adhere to these standards, which are essential to building a respectful and supportive school community for all.
We will continue our Christ-centered, faith-based mission to foster an environment where all students can thrive spiritually and academically.
The boy’s full speech and the principal’s request for editing were obtained. Published From KTTV.
