Cause of deadly Arizona plane crash revealed, deceased pilot identified

Arizona officials have revealed that a landing gear breakdown caused a private jet owned by Vince Neil, the lead singer of Mötley Crüe.

Three people were injured in a clash at Scottsdale airport. This includes the second pilot and Neil's girlfriend Rain Hannah and her friends. The fifth person on the parked jet refused to see a doctor. Neil wasn't on the plane.

“According to the initial report, the Learjet's left main landing device failed during landing, leading to a collision,” the city of Scottsdale said in a statement on its website. “Airport operations staff and paramedics at Scottsdale Fire Station 609 responded to the scene within a minute of the collision.”

The deceased pilot was appointed 78-year-old Joie Vitosky, the Scottsdale Police Department said. According to FAA Records, he was certified as a flight engineer from 1978 and a pilot from 2019.

Vitosky was originally from Okema, Oklahoma, and joined the Marines in his early 20s. He became a Marine Corps aviator and flew a helicopter in Vietnam in 1969, she said. After spending more than a decade with the Marines, he began flying Learjets.

She said he died doing what he loved and he would probably be happy to be able to go as he did. “His passion was flying,” she said.

Scottsdale Fire Captain Dave Folio said people were trapped in Neil's jet after the crash, but rescuers were able to free them from the wreckage. The person was transferred to a trauma center in a dangerous condition.

Hannah suffered from five broken ribs per TMZ. The two passengers also had dogs on the plane and survived the incident.

A witness who has worked with aviation for 35 years, Gordan Johnson told Fox 10 that he saw the front landing gear collapse and saw the jet slip from the runway on his left.

The plane was coming when it crashed from Austin, Texas. According to records reviewed by Fox News Digital, Jet is registered with Wyoming-based company Hollywood, Inc.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said it is investigating the crash.
