U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released its monthly update touting a decline in the number of encounters with migrants since last month.
In March, Border Patrol recorded 137,480 encounters between ports of entry along the Southwest border. Encounter rates between ports of entry along the Southwest border decreased by 45% compared to December 2023 and by 16% compared to March 2023.
Although March was the lowest number of Border Patrol encounters under the Biden administration, CBP records show 1,340,801 total encounters in the first half of fiscal year 2024, a record 1,226,254 total encounters. This exceeded the target for the first half of fiscal 2023.
