Try this delicious turkey burger recipe from celebrity chef Anne Burrell this Memorial Day weekend and beyond.

“This recipe was created purely out of necessity while I was visiting my sister,” the chef, Food Network personality and former instructor at the Institute of Culinary Education told Fox News Digital this week.

“I got off the plane, dropped my bags off at her house, and she said, ‘I’m having turkey burgers for dinner…can you make them?'” she said.

“I went into her pantry and pulled out some ingredients. I saw that she had a can of sweet chestnuts there, so I decided to add a little crunch to dinner. I added soy sauce, sautéed onions, ginger, garlic and coriander, and lo and behold, the best turkey burgers were born,” Burrell continued.

Instructions

1. For the turkey burgers: Add the olive oil to a large sauté pan and add the onion. Season with salt and place the pan over medium heat. Sauté until the onion is soft and fragrant, 7 to 8 minutes. Add the garlic and sauté for an additional 1 to 2 minutes.

Turn off the heat and let it cool.

2. In a large bowl, combine turkey, celandine, soy sauce, coriander, ginger, sambal (if using), and sautéed onions and garlic. (Note: the skillet with the onions will be used later to cook the burgers.)

Mix with your hands until everything is well combined.

Add ¼ to ½ cup water to the mixture – this will make the burgers really moist.

Mix by squeezing with your hands until everything is well combined.

3. To make sure your turkey is really good, make a few test patties, cook them, and eat them. If the seasoning isn’t quite right, add a bit more soy sauce or a sprinkle of salt.

Once you’re sure your burger mix is perfectly seasoned, form it into 4 even patties.

Hamburgers on the grill

“Cook the burgers for 5 to 6 minutes on each side,” Burrell says. “The burgers should be golden brown when they’re done.” (iStock)

4. Wipe the sauté pan you used for the onions with paper towels, coat with fresh olive oil and place over medium-high heat. Add the burgers but be careful not to overcrowd the pan. If you need to cook a lot at once, don’t overdo it.
