U.S. Service Members Killed in Iranian Attack in Jordan

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on Saturday that two American service members lost their lives during an Iranian attack on a military base in Jordan on Friday.

According to a statement from CENTCOM, “On July 17, two U.S. military personnel in Jordan were killed in action while U.S. Central Command and allied forces were responding to Iranian ballistic missile and drone strikes. Additionally, one service member is currently unaccounted for.”

Four other American service members were medically evacuated to a hospital but have since been discharged. Others were treated for minor injuries and have returned to duty, CENTCOM noted.

In light of the tragedy, the statement indicated that further details about the fallen service members, including their identities, will be withheld out of respect until the families have been informed.

Army Secretary Pete Hegseth expressed his condolences, stating, “Godspeed heroes. Their sacrifice only strengthens our resolve.”

This incident marks the first U.S. military fatality in the ongoing conflict with Iran since hostilities reignited in June after a ceasefire agreement collapsed. Overall, 16 American service members have died since the war began in February.

The attack is part of a broader escalation in Iranian aggression, targeting U.S. allies in the Persian Gulf, including recent missile and drone strikes against Kuwait and Qatar.

The strike on Jordan followed a six-day U.S. military campaign in retaliation for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps’ attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Fox News Digital has reached out to CENTCOM and the White House for additional comments on the situation.

This story is still developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
