Cesar Chavez’s family endorses Biden ahead of ‘Viva Kennedy 2024’ event

Cesar Chavez’s family endorsed President Biden’s reelection bid Friday, according to the Biden campaign.

The endorsement comes ahead of an event featuring prominent labor leader Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Saturday. The independent candidate is hosting a campaign in Los Angeles titled “Celebrating the Life and Achievement of Cesar Chavez.”

However, the Biden team has ties to the Chavez family, and its campaign manager for the 2024 cycle is Chavez’s granddaughter, Julie Chavez Rodriguez.

Fernando and Paul Chavez, the sons of the Labor Party leader, endorsed: CBS first reported. “It is a bond of love and respect for a president whose character and actions consistently reflect the true legacy of his father,” Paul Chavez told the outlet.

Biden displayed a bust of Cesar Chavez, co-founder of the United Farm Workers organization, in his office. In a statement to CBS, Rodriguez said the bust is a reminder that Biden “understands the power of organizing people and working together.”

At President Kennedy’s event on Saturday, Chavez was touted as a “good friend of RFK and RFK Jr.” And he was “a legendary organizer of farm workers and voters who exercised civic power.”
