U.S. Chamber of Commerce Backs Ken Paxton in Texas Senate Race

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has announced its endorsement of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton over Democratic state Representative James Talarico in what is shaping up to be a closely watched U.S. Senate election in Texas.

“The choice is clear in Texas,” said Neil Bradley, Executive Vice President and Chief Policy Officer at the Chamber, in a statement released on Sunday. “Attorney General Ken Paxton has been a defender of free enterprise and the pro-growth policies that empower American businesses to thrive,” he added. “He has resisted federal overreach, maintained a low-tax environment, and safeguarded the energy sector from restrictive regulations.”

“Paxton truly understands that economic prosperity depends on a fair and predictable justice system. We’re eager to collaborate on meaningful legal reforms to protect job creators from lawsuit abuse and excessive regulations,” the statement concluded.

This endorsement from a key pro-business organization comes just as early voting kicks off, adding a timely boost to Republican efforts to retain a Senate seat in Texas.

Recent surveys suggest Talarico might pose a significant challenge to Paxton, who has the backing of former President Donald Trump. The Cook Political Report moved the race into toss-up status back in August, while the RealClearPolitics polling average indicates Talarico is currently slightly ahead.

During a recent rally in San Antonio as part of his “Come and Take It Tour,” Paxton emphasized the national significance of keeping Texas, a long-standing Republican stronghold, in the GOP camp.

“If we lost Texas, we lose America,” Paxton declared.

He also reiterated his commitment to reducing governmental interference in the economy, advocating for fewer restrictions on individuals driving economic growth.

“The U.S. Chamber endorses candidates for federal office who will support policies that drive innovation, grow the economy, and create opportunities for American businesses and workers,” the Chamber elaborated in its statement.

The organization represents a diverse array of companies from small businesses to major corporations across various sectors.
