Charles Barkley criticizes Cavaliers for disappointing performance against Knicks

Knicks Advance to NBA Finals After Cavaliers’ Defeat

In a dramatic end to the season, Charles Barkley led the Knicks to a victory over the Cavaliers just before the final buzzer, marking the Knicks’ first trip to the NBA Finals since 1999.

Despite a powerful start from the Cavaliers in Monday’s elimination game, the Knicks took control for most of the match at Rocket Arena, ultimately suffering a heavy 130-93 defeat.

The game seemed lost for the Cavaliers even before halftime, but Barkley didn’t hold back in criticizing their effort. He stated, “Kids at home, if you want to know what quit means, it means give up. That verb is CA-VA-LI-ERS. They were up by 29 points. This is just effort.”

To drive his point home, he requested a clip that highlighted the Cavaliers’ performance, asking, “How do you allow 23 fast break points in the first half? The players won’t admit they’re quitting, but their actions tell a different story.”

Barkley also referenced comments made by Lisa Salters and Marika Andrews, suggesting that the Cavaliers claimed they believed in their chances. He expressed skepticism, saying, “I believed they would make a fuss, and that’s what actually happened.”

Meanwhile, the “Inside the NBA” team continued the discussion. Post-game, Kenny Smith mentioned that the Cavaliers “took a step back because they showed everyone else in the Eastern Conference our weaknesses.” He added that for Cleveland to succeed moving forward, a shift in their offensive strategy is necessary.

This comment followed criticisms directed at Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson, particularly regarding his decision not to call a timeout during a pivotal moment in Game 1 when the Knicks staged a remarkable comeback.
