Reconciliation Between Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan
Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan have transformed past tensions into a renewed friendship.
Although they were once close friends and fierce competitors, the two hadn’t communicated in nearly 15 years after Barkley criticized Jordan’s management of the Charlotte Bobcats. Their conversation resumed in April, thanks to a call from former MLB star Vince Coleman.
This week, Barkley elaborated on that conversation during an appearance on Barstool Sports’ podcast. He playfully recalled asking Jordan, who was golfing with Coleman, “Mom, what’s wrong?”
Jordan chuckled and echoed Barkley’s words. Following this, they discussed future plans to play golf together.
Barkley expressed that they have shared a close bond for many years and acknowledged, “It’s selfish and stupid” to have drifted apart.
Both men admitted to missing their friendship, and although Jordan is currently traveling abroad, he mentioned their intentions to play golf when he returns. “Let’s get together as soon as we get a chance,” he said. “I’m going to go to his golf course and play with him for a few days.”
Barkley had previously shared details about the conversation on the Chicago radio show Waddle and Sylvie. He recounted Coleman’s remarks, stating, “I’m tired of you and MJ’s BS. He’s here. We all need to talk it out.”
The two friends had a meaningful discussion facilitated by Coleman. Barkley noted they talked for a few moments, emphasizing how important the reconnection was.
In a prior interview back in 2012, Barkley made pointed remarks about Jordan’s performance with the Bobcats, indicating he was concerned about Jordan’s management. He suggested that those around him might be hesitant to voice differing opinions, citing the tendency for people to align with those in power out of self-interest.
However, now Barkley is eager to rekindle their friendship on the golf course. “I’m really looking forward to playing against him,” he shared.
