Arizona Republican Primary Results
As the general election draws closer, the Republican primary for Arizona’s governorship has captured attention this week.
U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) emerged victorious in Tuesday’s Republican primary, besting fellow U.S. Rep. David Schweikert (R-Ariz.).
With a notable turnout of 84%, Biggs secured a substantial 73.4% of the vote, compared to Schweikert’s 14.7%.
In a message shared on X, Biggs expressed his gratitude for the nomination, stating he felt “very honored.” He mentioned that grassroots supporters have powered his campaign since its inception in January 2025. “Our mission has been clear—to restore the American Dream in Arizona. Moreover, we’ve aimed to unify the Republican Party, and, well, I think we’ve achieved that better than many,” he noted.
Biggs is now focusing on his next challenge: the incumbent Democratic Governor, Katie Hobbs.
He stated, “As we enter the general election, I want every Arizonan to understand this: regardless of your political affiliation or background, you deserve a leader who is better than Katie Hobbs.”
The Republican Governors Association congratulated Biggs on his primary win, emphasizing his plans to cut taxes, boost the economy, and strengthen border security, contrasting Hobbs’s leadership which they claim has led to increased costs and fewer opportunities.
Current campaign finance summaries reveal that Hobbs holds a significant cash advantage, approaching $2 million, while Biggs has about $1.3 million in funds.
Hobbs, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, previously won the gubernatorial election in 2022 by a razor-thin margin against Republican Kari Lake, less than 1 percentage point separating them.
Former President Donald Trump has endorsed Biggs, supporting his focus on border security and tax cuts as critical issues for the upcoming gubernatorial election in April 2025. Trump actively backed Biggs during the primary campaign.
In his efforts to appeal across party lines, Biggs remarked to USA Today, “While I identify as a conservative, I’ve learned that even within conservative circles, collaboration is possible. It’s about finding common ground, even with those who have differing viewpoints.”
Interestingly, over a third of Arizona voters are not registered with either major political party.
The late Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, notably endorsed Biggs in a speech before his passing, asserting, “We need to secure Arizona, which begins with defeating Katie Hobbs and reclaiming the Governor’s Mansion. There’s no one better for the job than Congressman Andy Biggs.”
Looking at the broader political landscape, Trump holds a 5.5-point lead in Arizona for the 2024 presidential election, the largest margin among key battleground states. However, Democrats continue to perform strongly, retaining positions like the U.S. Senate seat and the offices of attorney general and secretary of state.
