Tragic Boating Accident in San Francisco Bay
The family of a woman who tragically lost her life in a San Francisco Bay boating accident has shared their grief, remembering her as a “beloved mother, daughter, sister, and aunt.” What began as a memorial cruise ended in heartbreak for all involved.
The victim, identified as 58-year-old Tondra Miller, also known as Tondra Madruga, was one of three passengers reported missing after the private cabin cruiser Volare capsized and sank on Tuesday afternoon. This unfortunate incident came just as the family gathered to scatter the ashes of a friend who had passed away a decade earlier.
The group, which included around 20 family members and friends from Stockton and Sacramento, had spent a few hours at Ayala Cove on Angel Island before heading back. Unfortunately, rough weather and strong swells overwhelmed the boat, causing it to roll over and quickly fill with water.
Authorities managed to rescue 16 people from the water, three of whom sustained injuries. Sadly, Clifford Joseph Boisa, a 79-year-old former reserve deputy, also died in this tragic event.
Currently, two individuals remain unaccounted for, and it is believed they may be trapped inside the vessel, resting about 120 to 130 feet below the surface near Alcatraz Island.
Madruga, who was friends with the deceased Maria Boisa, has left an undeniable impact on this grieving community. Her family expressed their sorrow in a Facebook statement, declaring they are “heartbroken over the loss of our beloved mother, daughter, sister, and aunt Tondra Madruga.” They have requested privacy during this difficult time and extended heartfelt condolences to all affected by the tragedy.
Additionally, the family recognized the efforts of the U.S. Coast Guard, San Francisco Fire Department, and others who responded to the emergency, stating their dedication “means more to our family than words can express.” The heartfelt message concluded with a note of gratitude: “Thank you for your prayers, love, and support.”
