Man Fatally Shot in Parking Lot While Live Streaming

A Chicago man found himself in a terrifying situation when he was shot in a parking lot on Wednesday evening, all while live streaming on Facebook. Kevin Watson, aged 42, was visiting a cousin in the South Austin neighborhood when the incident occurred.

During the live stream, which drew in viewers, Watson was engaged in a discussion about a recent parking dispute when a car pulled up beside him around 6:14 PM in the 5000 block of W Madison Street, just about a mile from the nearest police station.

As Watson noticed the unknown shooter approaching, he instinctively jumped into his seat and raised his arm. Annoyed viewers later shared clips of the unsettling moment online.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, seemingly confused, before he abruptly exited the vehicle. The panic in his voice was evident when he exclaimed, “What’s wrong? Na of hell,” right before a gunshot echoed in the stream.

Seconds after Watson jumped from the car, a gunshot rang out. Witnesses quickly gathered around him as he collapsed outside the vehicle. Some onlookers rushed to apply pressure to his wounds while they awaited emergency responders.

According to police, Watson had suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest. He lived just two blocks south of where he was shot and was transported to Sinai Mount Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries there.

The harrowing live stream of the incident has been viewed more than two million times on social media platforms.

Reports suggest that Watson knew the shooter and had attempted to wrestle the gun away moments before being shot. Witness Alvin Jackson recounted, “He was talking to a guy, he went to his car, and then the guy followed behind him. So the man followed behind him and pulled the gun at him. He was about to wrestle the gun, but then it just vanished.”

Watson’s live stream inexplicably continued, showcasing his empty car after the shocking incident took place.

Jack Smith, Watson’s cousin, vividly remembers the horror of seeing Watson in such critical condition, struggling to breathe on the ground. “He was holding his breath. He was about to have a hard time breathing,” Smith recounted with obvious distress.

Tragically, Watson, a father to a six-year-old son, passed away just a few weeks shy of his birthday. His cousin expressed his deep sorrow, saying, “I wouldn’t have let him out of the store. He was a good guy. No matter what he did, he helped people, you know? He helped me do this job.”

As of now, no arrests or charges have been made in connection with the shooting. It’s worth noting that over 200 people have lost their lives to gun violence in Chicago this year, with data indicating a stark drop from 316 deaths last year.
