Chicago’s Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson has already delayed his policy to remove illegal border crossers from city-run shelters to make way for new immigrants.
In December, Johnson announced a plan to remove migrants from city-run shelters beyond his arbitrary 60-day deadline. The idea of a deadline is to keep beds open for new immigrants on a regular basis, but the result would simply be that certain immigrants become homeless.
One of Johnson’s solutions to the latter problem is to round up recently discovered immigrants and transport them to points in the suburbs or outside of Illinois.
But Johnson says he has already postponed his plans twice because of the weather. On January 25, Prime Minister Boris Johnson postponed the imposition of the 60-day police limit again, with the policy now not expected to be implemented until March.
“Our plan for emergency temporary shelter was never intended to be a long-term housing solution, but it does provide work authorization processing and support for every person and every family that comes to our city. , we want to give them enough time to find housing and start a new life in our great city,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson. Said Thursday, according to WBBM-TV.
In addition to the 60-day limit, Johnson also halted efforts to open new shelters, even as illegal aliens continue to flow into the city at an accelerating rate.
The move to cancel plans to open new shelters disappointed the state’s left-wing Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker, who advocates for sanctuaries.
Pritzker, a Democrat, told the media at a press conference on January 22 that he was “very concerned.” “The city of Chicago doesn’t have enough shelters.”
“The city has not told the state where they want our resources to go in building new shelters or helping build new shelters,” Pritzker continued. “So if they don’t identify those locations, we can’t help. And we need to make sure we don’t reduce shelter capacity, as the city is planning to do in late winter.” there is.”

“If you think warmer weather will end this problem, that’s not the case. We will continue to need shelter for these people,” he said. “So I’m very concerned and I hope that at least the plan that I read this morning… they don’t end up actually implementing it.”
Chicago has been plagued by more than 35,000 illegal aliens since last August. Now they will be allowed to spend an additional 60 days in the city’s shelter.
