Chicago Stalling on Pro-Israel Group’s Permit to March at DNC; Pro-Palestinian Permit Granted

The city of Chicago is reportedly delaying a pro-Israel group’s permit application to hold a solidarity march during the Democratic National Convention later this month.

Jewish News Syndicate Reports:

The Israeli American Council, a nonprofit group representing Israeli Americans who want to strengthen ties between the U.S. and Israel, submitted two applications to the Chicago Department of Transportation in early July, according to Aya Schechter, the group’s chief programming officer.

But with less than two weeks to go until the tournament, the IAC has yet to receive a response from the city, despite phone and email inquiries.

Last month, a coalition of pro-Palestinian activists planned what was called a “Democratic National Convention.” Permission granted The proposed protest route near the convention site is intended to settle a lawsuit that has accused the city of violating the First Amendment. The coalition estimates that more than 25,000 people could attend and disrupt the convention.
