Some Chiefs fans are frustrated that they will only be able to watch one of the team’s three preseason games because their final game before the regular season, Thursday night against the Chicago Bears, will not be televised in Kansas City because of the Democratic National Convention.
The Chiefs-Bears broadcast in the area will be on KMCI instead of the usual KSHB, except the DNC will be on TV instead of football.
The game will also be broadcast on NFL Network, but Kansas City fans will not be able to stream the game there due to embargo restrictions.

“For the second time this preseason, Channel 41 is moving their Chiefs game coverage to Channel 38,” a Reddit user wrote, via the Kansas City Star. “YouTube TV doesn’t carry Channel 38 so you won’t be able to watch this game again. Why is Channel 41 paying for the rights to these games when so many in their market can’t watch them? Does the Chiefs front office even care?”
Also problematic for Kansas City fans was the Chiefs’ first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, which was originally broadcast on KSHB but was switched to KMCI due to the Paris Summer Olympics.

KMCI was unavailable for DirecTV customers, and the NFL Network again blacked out, meaning fans couldn’t watch the game.
X added to social media reactions to the Chiefs-Bears game.
“I’m looking into this,” one X user wrote. “I live in KC and Thursday’s game is blocked on YouTube TV where I live. It’s on 38 the spot but YouTube TV doesn’t have its own app or channel.”
“But why can’t I see it on the NFL Network broadcast? Can someone explain?”

One caveat to not having fans in attendance is that the Chiefs’ starters are not expected to play in the final preseason game, as head coach Andy Reid doesn’t want any key players to get injured before the season begins.
Patrick Mahomes had a mediocre performance against the Detroit Lions in Week 2, throwing a behind-the-back pass to Travis Kelce, but players like Mahomes and Kelce have amply proven over the past season that they don’t need additional playing time ahead of the Week 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens.
At the same time, the majority of the Bears’ starters, including No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams, will not play in Thursday night’s game.
Chiefs fans may be upset that they won’t be able to watch the team’s final preseason game, but the regular-season opener on Sept. 5 will be nationally televised, so there won’t be any blackout restrictions to worry about.
