Chiefs president Mark Donovan was quick to delegitimize Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift's relationship when asked about her influence on the team's growing fan base.
During Wednesday's performance, CNBC's “Squawk Box”''Donovan declared that the couple's romance was completely legal, even if it benefited the Chiefs organization.
“I'd like to say it was a marketing ploy, but it's a real relationship,” Donovan said. “And we're happy to have it, and it's been nothing but good for us.”
This came after the CNBC host asked if Donovan could have predicted the NFL's growth after the Chiefs tight end and mega-pop star began dating last summer.
“I think the best thing I can say about the whole relationship and the impact it has had on us is that Taylor Swift is a true member of the Kansas City Chiefs kingdom,” Donovan said. “She's a real fan, and that's important to our fans and fan base, and it's important to us, and we try to respect that.
