Childhood friends find out they are sisters via DNA test 40 years after being adopted

Soul Sisters are reunited!

After decades apart, two childhood friends discovered that a DNA test revealed they are actually sisters, a revelation that filled in a significant gap in their identities.

Meena and Minal, adopted from an Indian orphanage 40 years ago, grew up about 100 miles apart in the Netherlands but both felt a sense of isolation and a longing for their biological families.

“When I see you, it feels like coming home,” Mina Geltink, 43, said joyfully during an emotional reunion on Tuesday.

“For years, I felt a hole in my heart,” said Ms. Geltink, a mother of three. “It’s like discovering the missing puzzle piece.”

The two first connected at an adoption event in 1996, feeling an instant bond without knowing they were siblings. They even joked about looking alike and casually referred to each other as “sis” before exchanging contact information.

Fifteen years passed without any communication until a MyHeritage DNA test in April confirmed they were a 100% match.

Minal Tijssen, 44, who resides in France with her partner and two sons, was taken by surprise when her phone buzzed with the results of the DNA test.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she recalled.

She hadn’t realized that her crush from 30 years ago was the same person until she spotted her photo on social media.

Although she felt cherished by her adoptive family, she had no information about her birth relatives and, as a result, a lingering sadness followed her throughout her life.

When they finally met in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, their reunion was filled with hugs, laughter, and tears. They even took a selfie, filled with joy and warmth.

“Before we were sisters, we were friends,” Tijssen reflected. “We’ve always been sisters, even if we didn’t know.”
