Controversy Surrounds YouTube Star Rachel Griffin Accurso
Rachel Griffin Accurso, known for her popular YouTube channel “Ms. Rachel,” issued an emotional apology on Wednesday after facing backlash on social media. The uproar started when her official Instagram account accidentally “liked” an antisemitic comment, which she later said was a mistake.
It all kicked off when Accurso posted a message on Instagram advocating for various global causes, including Palestine, Sudan, and Iran. Among the comments, one user made a derogatory statement suggesting to “Free America from the Jews.” Almost immediately, it was noticed that Accurso’s account was one of the few that liked this offensive remark, prompting outrage from parents and advocacy organizations.
The “Liked by creator” feature on Instagram created more visibility for the comment, leading followers to see it prominently displayed. After realizing the potential gaffe from a concerned fan who messaged her, Accurso shared the information with her followers to clarify her position.
“I’m sure that’s an accident, so wanted to let you know,” read the direct message, which Accurso later confirmed her account had indeed liked.
Accurso reacted, “Deleted – how horrible – oh wait, let me check – I did delete one like that. Yeah, I believe I deleted that earlier, right when I saw it! I hate antisemitism.”
In a heartfelt video, Accurso appeared visibly shaken, expressing regret over the misunderstanding and reiterating that she did not support such hateful comments.
“I would never agree with something antisemitic like that,” she said while crying in her apology video on Instagram. “I’m so sorry for the confusion it caused.”
Accurso has often used her platform to address children in conflict zones, focusing on a humanitarian mission. However, her outspoken criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza led to her being named a top-10 finalist for “Antisemite of the Year” by the organization StopAntisemitism in late 2025. The group accused her of spreading “Hamas-aligned propaganda” and ignoring the plight of Israeli children, claims she firmly denied as untrue.
“Over 14,000 precious children have been lost in Gaza. We can’t be silent about these conditions for children,” she stated in a 2024 TikTok video.
While she shared distressing images of children from Gaza, critics pointed out that the imagery was misleading. StopAntisemitism countered that one particularly infamous photo showed a child suffering from cystic fibrosis rather than outright starvation. Despite this, reports later emerged suggesting the child did experience both conditions.
“World leaders, please help this baby. Think about a baby you love,” she urged in her video. “There’s no way we can ignore the loss of so many children.”
Her approach, though, raised skepticism. Many questioned her use of casualty figures from Gaza Health Ministry, which operates under Hamas, dubbing it unreliable. Pro-Israel activists accused her of showing a bias in her coverage and not adequately addressing the suffering of Israeli victims.
“I’m so sorry if anyone thought that I would agree with something so horrible and antisemitic like that. I want to say it’s OK to be human and make mistakes. I’m not great with online things. I’ve liked things by accident before,” she said through tears.
However, the backlash continued when she responded curiously to a follower who suggested that the antisemitic comment was inserted to frame her. Critics interpreted her response as indirectly supporting a conspiracy theory.
Accurso started her channel in 2019 after her son was diagnosed with a speech delay, aiming to provide accessible support for parents. The channel grew substantially during the COVID-19 pandemic as many sought educational resources for toddlers.
Recently, she ventured into politics by joining the inaugural committee for New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who has also faced antisemite accusations. Recently, they collaborated on a proposal aimed at providing government-funded childcare for 2-year-olds in New York City. In a joint video, they adapted a familiar song to focus on their initiative.
