Chili's criticizes Burger King's sandwich meal costing $18.19 on social media.

Chili’s recently took to social media to challenge fast food pricing, prompting an overwhelmingly positive reaction. A user on X, known as @YellowFlashGuy, shared a picture of an $18.19 Bacon King meal from Burger King—essentially a sandwich with fries and a drink, where the sandwich alone costs $12.99. The user expressed frustration, asking why he would pay that much when restaurant meals could offer better value.

Chili’s chimed in, stating, “That’s what we’ve been saying!!!” They pointed out an attractive deal of three large crispy chicken sandwiches with fries, bottomless chips, salsa, and unlimited drinks for just $10.99, claiming it as a better alternative.

The Bacon King sandwich is a two-quarter-pound beef patty offering, garnished with bacon, American cheese, ketchup, and mayonnaise on a toasted sesame bun.

Interestingly, most Burger King outlets are independently owned franchises, which can lead to price variations. A spokesperson from Burger King has yet to respond to inquiries regarding these pricing differences.

The exchange gained traction, with Chili’s reply clocking in over 5 million views and attracting numerous favorable comments. One user even said, “Okay, I’m going to Chili’s after work,” to which Chili’s eagerly responded, “I can’t wait!” Another user shared their experience, noting they enjoyed great food, service, and value during their visit.

Chili’s kept engaging with users, affirming, “That’s what we’re here for!” while another customer thanked the chain for its affordability. However, the feedback wasn’t universally positive; a few folks reported dissatisfaction with their orders, prompting Chili’s to request further feedback for improvements.

Despite some negative comments, many defended Chili’s, arguing a single cook’s performance shouldn’t define the entire brand’s reputation.

Chili’s has been openly critical of fast food pricing trends, with a representative from the chain noting that they’ve playfully targeted fast food establishments in the past. They recently introduced a new Big Crispy Chicken Sandwich in April, aligning with their value-oriented 3 for Me menu, which aims to draw attention to the inflated pricing in the fast food sector. According to Chili’s, the market for chicken sandwiches has grown rapidly, but many consumers feel let down by the value offered at fast food joints.

In a broader context, surveys show a significant shift in consumer behavior—many people are dining out less frequently due to rising restaurant prices. Data indicates major fast food chains raised their prices by about 60% from 2014 to 2024. Reports suggest that 68% of U.S. consumers are now prioritizing cost and convenience over frequency when dining out.

Chili’s focus on value has seemingly fostered their growth; Brinker International revealed earlier this year that the chain achieved its 20th consecutive quarter of sales growth, with an increase of 4% reported.
