Chilling fake of birthing 30,000 babies in eerie artificial wombs

The intriguing but fictitious video “EctoLife: World’s First Artificial Womb Facility” has recently been attracting attention again on social media, possibly after its creator, Hashem Al Ghaily, released another fake video about head transplants called “BrainBridge,” sparking controversy and raising questions about the authenticity of the EctoLife video.

However, both videos are conceptual presentations and do not depict existing facilities or technology.

Thought-provoking concept, but not reality

EctoLife VideoCreated by science communicator and filmmaker Hashem Al-Ghaily, the project presents a futuristic concept for an artificial womb facility which it claims offers a safe, painless alternative to natural pregnancy and childbirth.

The video shows fetuses lined up in transparent, football-shaped pods inside a high-tech building while a narrator explains how the facility works.

However, it is important to understand that the Ecto-Life video is a concept video and not a depiction of an existing reality – Al-Ghaily himself makes it clear that the technology depicted in the video does not yet exist, marking it as a “concept” near the end of the video.

Partial ectoderm formation: a more realistic approach

While the concept of full IVF (the complete gestation of a fetus outside the uterus) is still a long way off, researchers are making progress in the field of partial IVF. In 2017, researchers at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia successfully gestated a premature lamb in an artificial womb-like “biobag” for several weeks. However, experts stress that these efforts are focused on possible life-support options for premature babies, and are not a replacement for full gestations.

Facilitating debate and ethical considerations

While EctoLife’s video may not depict our current reality, it has succeeded in sparking a discussion about the potential implications and ethical considerations surrounding artificial womb technology. As scientific advances continue, it is important to engage in thoughtful dialogue and address the complex ethical, legal, and societal issues that may arise.

As Hashem Al-Ghaily stated, the main goal of producing this video was “to stimulate discussion about emerging technologies and highlight scientific advances in the field of ectodermal formation.” By presenting thought-provoking concepts, the video sparks a conversation that could shape the future development and regulation of artificial womb technology.

The resurfacing of the EctoLife video has rekindled debate and raised eyebrows, but it is important to distinguish fact from fiction. The video, while interesting, is a conceptual presentation and does not depict an existing reality. However, its creator, Hashem Al Ghaily, seems to have a talent for sparking conversation with his thought-provoking, yet fictional, videos.

The recent release of Dr. Al-Ghairy’s “Brain Bridge” videos on head transplants may have contributed to the renewed interest in the ecto-life concept. While these videos may not reflect current scientific capabilities, they serve as a reminder of the rapid advances in technology and the ethical considerations that come with them.

As we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible, it is important to engage in thoughtful dialogue and address the complex ethical, legal, and societal issues that may arise. Although the EctoLife video is fiction, it has succeeded in sparking discussion about the potential impacts of artificial womb technology, and these conversations may shape the future development and regulation of such technology.

Ultimately, artificial womb facilities like EctoLife may not be a reality just yet, but the video offers a thought-provoking glimpse into what the future may hold, and reminds us to approach such advances with careful consideration and ethical responsibility.
