A Chinese Communist Party-linked company planning to build an electric vehicle battery factory in the United States has already spent more than $1 million on lobbying efforts in 2024, according to public information.
Battery manufacturing company Gotion Inc. own A subsidiary of Goshon Hitech, a company based in China and affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party, plans to build facilities in Michigan and Illinois. Gortion has already spent about $1.2 million on lobbying efforts in 2024 as it faces pressure from Republican lawmakers to block the company from taking advantage of Inflation Control Act (IRA) tax credits. Gotion executives said in October that the company was compliant with IRA regulations and therefore eligible for taxpayer subsidies. Gortion could receive about $7.5 billion in taxpayer subsidies to build the Illinois plant, which is expected to cost $2 billion. Adding an additional $536 million in state aid packages would bring total aid to more than $8 billion.

Michigan Republican Rep. John Moolener, the next chairman of the House Select Committee on the Communist Party of China, has stepped forward. law Last year, he and Republican Illinois Rep. Darin LaHood introduced a bill that would block Gaushon from accessing IRA tax credits. Moolener told the Daily Caller News Foundation in a statement that companies like Goshon should not be eligible for IRA benefits given their ties to the Chinese Communist Party.
“Goshon is a Chinese Communist Party-affiliated company seeking to expand foreign influence over the United States in order to reap billions of dollars from hard-working American taxpayers,” Moolenaar told DCNF in a statement. “I think everyone can agree that we cannot allow companies with ties to the Chinese Communist Party to receive tax dollars. Congress needs to pass my NO GOTION Act so we can stop the Chinese Communist Party from accepting taxes.” Prioritize American innovation instead of subsidizing future domination.”
From early January to the end of March 2024, Goshon spent more than $695,000 on internal lobbying related to “U.S. trade with China” and “follow-up to the IRA (Energy Production Tax Credit).” according to The $695,000 includes funds spent by Gaushon itself and Donald J. “The Chinese Communist Party and the companies it controls, like Goshon, are abusing taxpayer subsidies meant for U.S. companies and friendly countries that manufacture in China,” Rubio told DCNF.
