Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy is calling on his House Republican colleagues to unite and reject significant funding to the federal government until action is taken to address the border crisis.
“I will deny funding to or authorize the U.S. government or any foreign government it supports unless and until it fulfills its constitutional obligation to protect our borders from invasion. “I am obligated to inform you that we have a duty to refuse to erect our republican form of government and to exonerate the people of Texas from any breach of that duty,” he declared. letter. “We must fund federal operations conditional on the president signing HR2 or its functional equivalent to stop flows across the border,” he wrote.
Roy proposed starving many of the money-hungry federal leviathans in a leverage effort to force action on the border issue, while authorizing funding for some key areas, such as Border Patrol agents.
“Certainly, using the constitutional power to withhold funds to enforce compliance with the law is accompanied by cries of “shutdown the government,'' and defunds critical resources such as funding for the military and Border Patrol agents themselves. There's a fear that we won't be able to maintain our priorities,'' Roy said. . “These claims could be dismissed if we pass a bill that funds very basic responsibilities, such as ensuring that Border Patrol agents receive their full pay, benefits, and overtime pay. , funding is withheld from large parts of the federal government until it fulfills its basic obligation to protect the supposedly sovereign nation's borders. ”
“The threats to the people we represent and the republic we are sworn to protect are real, especially when we release dangerous terrorists and criminals into our communities. All members of Congress must take note. If they're funding it, it's their property.'' We ultimately used our Article I powers to force the president to We must force them to stop the abuses of power that endanger Americans at our borders,” Roy declared.
Republican Sen. Mike Lee (Utah) retweeted Roy's letter seems to have the same idea.
“I will not vote to defund the government until our borders are secure. If you agree, please share and like. And ask your senators and representatives to make similar commitments. ” tweeted.
