(Nexstar) – Almost 33 years have gone by since the premiere of the beloved family movie Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, yet it continues to be a subject of debate online.
Director Chris Columbus, known for recently directing the first “Only Houses,” San Francisco Chronicle, pointed out that one specific aspect of the 1992 sequel is “to transform this burden” which he hopes to eliminate.
In the movie, Kevin, portrayed by Macaulay Culkin, strolls through the iconic Plaza Hotel in New York where he meets the businessman who owned the hotel back then and the future President Trump.
Since Trump’s initial foray into politics a decade ago, his brief appearance has gone viral on social media.
“I can’t remove it,” Columbus mentioned to the Chronicle. “If I remove it, I might be exiled from the country. I’m just thinking Not fit to live in the US and would have to relocate to Italy, or something.”
Columbus shared that Trump insisted on his inclusion in the film as a condition for permitting filming in the Plaza lobby.
“We paid the filming fee, but he stated, ‘The only way I can use the Plaza is if I’m part of the movie.’ So we agreed to include him,” said Columbus. Business Insider December 2023. He added that he felt Trump “maneuvered himself into the film.”
Trump was quick to respond to Columbus’ remarks on his social media platform, Truth Social. At the time, the future president remarked:
In his view, “The cameo skyrocketed, contributing significantly to the film’s success,” he added, “it complemented the movie perfectly.” BBC.
Meanwhile, Kevin McAlister’s own Culkin has repeatedly remarked that he will endorse him. Remove a Trump cameo from Home Alone 2, January 2021, Culkin responded in a now-viral tweet: “People should digitally replace ‘Home Alone 2’ Trump with a 40-year-old Macaulay Culkin” and “Sold.”
