Chris Pratt Stars Alongside Pope Leo in Vatican Documentary on St. Peter's Tomb

Actor Chris Pratt is set to co-star with Pope Leo XIV in a documentary that delves into the history, religious significance, and archaeological findings surrounding the tomb of St. Peter at the Vatican.

The documentary, titled Pétros ení: Alla scoperta delle origini (Pétros ení: Discovering the Origins), premiered at the Rome Film Festival on Friday, ahead of its planned international release. This film commemorates the 400th anniversary of the consecration of St. Peter’s Basilica, which will be observed on November 18.

The initial audience responded positively, giving a warm applause to Pope Leo XIV, who is currently being treated at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, according to Vatican News.

Produced by AF Films in collaboration with Vatican Media and the Fabric of St Peter, the documentary marks the 400th anniversary of St. Peter’s Basilica’s consecration on November 18, 1626. Directed by Paula Ortiz, with a script by Andrea Tornielli and narrated by Pratt, it also features an appearance by Pope Leo XIV.

Variety highlights that the documentary offers rare footage as it “explores how Peter’s burial site transformed into a center of devotion for early Christians and ultimately became the foundation for the first grand basilica built under Emperor Constantine,” according to the film’s synopsis.

The title “Pétros Ení” references a Greek inscription meaning “Peter is here,” discovered near the burial site of the apostle.

Pratt, well-known for his roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World franchises, will lead viewers on a journey underground beneath the basilica to uncover the history and archaeology of this significant Christian landmark, as detailed in the Variety report.

“The journey culminates with the special participation of Pope Leo XIV, who appears in the film’s final moments to contemplate Peter and the significance of his tomb below the Basilica,” the synopsis states.

“Collaborating with Pope Leo and the Vatican on this project was an incredible honor,” Pratt remarked in a statement. “The story of St. Peter is central to the Christian faith, and I am very thankful for the trust and access provided to present his legacy on screen.”

This high-profile documentary is set for its international theatrical release in February 2027, coinciding with the early weeks of Lent, a Christian season dedicated to prayer, reflection, and Easter preparation.

Previously, Breitbart News has reported on the historical significance of the tomb and its discovery.
